Another decaying mining community. I meet Al, an old guy mowing his lawn and reprimanding his dog. There's nothing here now, he laments. When the mines closed, everyone went. It's a dead place.
A tanned, moustachioed guy roars up the hill on a Harley, does a deafening spin in front of us and roars back down. We wait until he's far enough away to hear ourselves speak again. Well, the only thing left here now is noise, he adds.
I tell him that Llanfair is Welsh for the Church Of Saint Mary. That's interesting, he says - people come and they ask me why there's two Ls in Llanfair. I tell 'em - it's the Welsh.
